District Governor Nominee Keith Roffey
with his wife Margaret

District Governor Nominee 2012-13

Keith was born in England and as a child immigrated with his family to Perth, Western Australia.

During his first year in Australia he lived in Lower Chittering a farming area east of Perth. Later the family moved to the city where he attended Primary School until moving to Mt Helena in the hills district where he completed Primary and High School. On leaving school he commenced an apprenticeship in Carpentry & Joinery / Shopfitting and in addition to the normal trade curriculum courses studied for Builders Registration, Project Management, Supervision and Diploma of Building. Keith now holds builders licenses in all States.

In 1971 he and Margaret married and left Australia, travelling extensively throughout the northern hemisphere. Whilst living in London he continued his career in the retail and museum fit-out industry.

Margaret and Keith now consider Sydney home, settling here in 1974 after arrival back in Perth and being offered a transfer to manage a new venture in Shopfitting. They have two children, Emma and Nathan and four grandchildren, Emma living with her family in Sydney and Nathan with his family in Melbourne.

Keith formed his own company, Classic Resources Pty Limited in 1985 which has a presence in both Sydney and Melbourne, with the core business being in retail and museum fit-outs. As well as running his own business he has been involved in the Shopfitting Industry Association holding the NSW State Presidency 1994 – 1997 and the National Presidency 2004 – 2007. He was also a member of The Executive Connection for seven years.

Rotary International attracted Keith’s attention after being invited to attend a meeting of the Rotary Club of Padstow in 2000 and on becoming a member he realised a long term goal to expand his interests outside of his industry whilst enjoying a shared social life with Margaret. Keith feels being a Rotarian is rewarding and gives a greater purpose as a citizen. He respects Rotary for its ideals and the greater focus on global humanitarian issues whilst still encouraging service to our local communities.

From becoming a member his involvement at club has expanded by serving as Club International Director 2003/4, International/TRF Director 2004/5, Administration Director 2005/6, President 2006/7 and PR Director 2008/9. Further involvement and working beyond club in the District, he has served as ROYA Treasurer 2006/7, ROYA Chair 2007/9 and ROYA Secretary 2009/10 and Assistant Governor Zone 6 2009/10. Keith is currently District Simplified Grant Chair 2009/12 and District Membership/PR Chair 2010/11; he is also a member of the RDU Tri District Advisory Group and is a facilitator with the Rotary Leadership Institute in our District.

Keith has a small collection of antique clocks, enjoys restoring antique furniture when time permits and building model train stations and buildings for his grandchildren.
